Asset Development is tasked with identifying, developing and managing new investment opportunities on behalf of ESB Group. The Wind unit within Asset Development has successfully acquired and developed several hundred MWs of wind projects (both offshore and onshore) and solar projects in the UK and Ireland. Furthermore, it is actively seeking additional growth opportunities in both the UK and Ireland.

Asset Development activities comprise identifying and developing opportunities to enhance and expand the generation portfolio to achieve the ESB growth targets. The team is currently progressing several renewables acquisition / business development opportunities in Ireland and the UK.

It is envisaged that this role will initially be more focused on offshore wind and green hydrogen opportunities, with likely exposure to other technologies (onshore, wind) over time.

The successful candidates will be responsible for working with the wider Asset Development team (Commercial, Finance, Renewables) to overseeing successful delivery of business development opportunities in renewable technologies (onshore / offshore wind, solar, renewable enabling and new technologies such as hydrogen) . This a critical role within the team as the successful candidates will ensure that growth opportunities are identified and pursued in line with the business case.

The successful candidates will be highly motivated, innovative, demonstrate attention to detail and have a track record of successfully delivering projects and initiatives within ESB.

Key Responsibilities
 

  • Review and screen acquisition teasers, information memoranda, and other acquisition project material and assess potential renewables acquisitions in terms of their strategic and commercial attractiveness;
  • Ensure that the acquisitions process is managed using the appropriate methodologies and reporting requirements;
  • Co-ordinate effectively between the providers of inputs to the model and the financial modellers;
  • Prepare and present papers to the BD Board (Investment Committee) and prepare subsequent offer letters;
  • Contribute to the review of and negotiation of Share Purchase Agreements, Shareholders Agreements and other related transaction documentation;
  • Co-ordinate with project vendors and ensure the acquisitions process meets vendor criteria as well as following ESB’s internal procedures;
  • Ensure that the acquisitions team (from across the ESB Business, Legal, Finance, Insurance, E&MP, Asset Development, Tax) is sufficiently resourced and motivated on a given acquisitions project;
  • Ensure Procurement procedures are adhered to and that BD and Purchase approvals for a given acquisition are procured on time;
  • Represent ESB at industry events and work to enhance ESB’s profile externally, particularly within the renewables sector;
  • Together with the wider Asset Development team build and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders and JV partners businesses on behalf of each of the projects;
  • From time to time, engage with landowners and co-ordinate planning applications for renewables enabling technologies;
  • Be fully informed of industry issues which may impact the project design and ensure that this information feeds into the decision making process.
     

Essential

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • A track record in delivering new business development activities
  • Excellent ability to use own initiative, taking ownership of work / projects and motivating team members to deliver team objectives or projects;
  • Excellent analytical skills to assess projects and the ability to summarise the key parameters of a project;
  • Expert knowledge and experience of transacting a commercial acquisition.
  • Experience of commercial negotiations and stakeholder management
  • At least 7 years postgraduate experience.
