Full Job Description

SSE has big ambitions to be a leading energy company in a low carbon world. Following our commitment to invest £12.5 billion in low carbon projects over the next 5 years, our SSE Renewables (SSER) business continues to be at the forefront of our growth plans, and our ambition to build a world that's more sustainable and inclusive for you, your family, the community you live in and for generations to come. We are proud to be playing a critical role in the net zero transition, as we aim to more than treble the net capacity in operation to 13GW and grow renewable energy output five-fold to over 50TWh over the next 10 years.

About the Role

SSE Renewables is currently progressing a 3GW pipeline of offshore wind energy for development in Irish waters by 2030. This includes the 800MW Arklow Bank Wind Park Phase 2 project, which is being delivered through the Irish Government's first phase of offshore wind projects. We're looking for a pro-active, enthusiastic individual with an eye for detail to join the Arklow Bank Phase 2 project team, supporting the Project Manager and Package Managers across a number of technical and commercial disciplines. We want a self-starter, capable of operating both independently and as part of a team, someone who excels in the things which they are passionate about.

Base Location: Dublin is a preference, however we can be flexible and the role could be based at another of our key UK or Ireland sites, which includes but is not limited to:- Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Reading, Havant or Belfast.

You'll have an engineering / business / science background with a third level qualification, ideally with some experience in project development, although not essential. You'll work closely with the Project Manager and the wider consenting, procurement, finance and engineering teams working on the Arklow Bank Wind Park Phase 2 project and the wider SSER offshore wind projects portfolio as required, gaining great exposure and developing valuable experience. Some of your key responsibilities will be:

  • Ensure that safety is a number one priority across all aspects of projects, ensuring that a positive safety culture is promoted, and working collaboratively with others to develop new initiatives that continually improve health, safety and the environment in order to support SSE safety targets and achieve zero harm.
  • Support the Project Manager and Package Managers in day-to-day aspects of managing large scale capital projects, including running / chairing / recording of meetings, project reporting, programme management, management of risks / issue logs and associated processes.
  • Assist in setting up and managing resources, processes, systems and controls to accurately and timeously report as required, and in accordance with the Large Capital Projects (LCP) governance framework.
  • Develop strong and effective relationships with the project team members, internal and external stakeholders, subcontractors, suppliers and the community.
  • Occasionally will need to support and coordinate the commercial and technical assessments of development opportunities, including evaluation in terms of value and risk and support development project bid processes.
