This is a new and interesting role for candidates wishing to gain specific clinical experience in an inpatient hospital. There will be opportunities to work and learn with individuals who experience severe and enduring mental health difficulties and neurodegenerative disorders. The Assistant Psychologist will work with a small team of Psychologists and will be a valuable member of the team as we develop our service.

Key Responsibilities:

The duties of the Assistant Psychologist under the supervision of a clinical/counselling/neuro psychologist are outlined below. In carrying out all duties, the Assistant Psychologist should ensure that all hospital policies, Health & Safety procedures, and legislative requirements are met at all times.

An opportunity to work with adults and older adult service users with severe and enduring mental health difficulties and neurodegenerative disorders.

Work experience provided in the role will include individual work in delivery of psychoeducation, functional analysis of behaviour, direct observation, and case formulation development, use of assessment tools, scoring and report writing (All under clinical supervision).
 

  • Working with individuals to provide basic psychoeducation sessions, for example anxiety management, stress reduction, emotional regulation, behavioural analysis and listening space.
  • Co-ordination and some co-facilitation of a variety of group psychological therapy programmes with different clinical populations
  • Assisting in the preparation and delivery of the group psychological therapy programmes.
  • Become familiar with relevant background literature and theory.
  • Conduct pre- and post-intervention psychometric assessments, including self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with patients referred to psychology department.
  • Maintain collaborative working relationships with the Psychology Department, providing regular feedback from relevant programmes as needed.
  • As required undertake data collection, analysis, the production of reports and summaries in relation to the population psychological interventions.
  • Participate in research projects and audits as needed.
  • Attend regular individual and team supervision.
  • Work with other members of the MDT, in particular nursing staff to support work with this patient group.
