Our CAD/GIS Technicians provide important services in our engineering teams from early project feasibility stage right through planning, design, construction and handover for civil engineering works, electrical infrastructure projects delivering infrastructure for Transmission and Distribution Systems, Renewable Generation (Solar PV, Onshore/Offshore Wind), Thermal and Hydro Generation and Energy Storage. The successful CAD/GIS Technicians will work closely with colleagues in various teams within the Civil, Environmental & Renewables Department to deliver solutions for projects that will help deliver ESB’s 2040 strategy.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following and may vary depending on the knowledge and experience of the successful candidate and the team in which they will be positioned:

  • Be an active member in one of four engineering teams (e.g Offshore Wind, Solar Team, Civil/ Structural engineering design team, building & property team, Flexible Generation and Hydro Generation Teams) to provide CAD/ SIS services to the team and on projects.
  • Prepare 2D & 3D drawings/models, maps and documentation for civil engineering and building works associated with projects.
  • Produce Planning Permission Drawings in coordination with multi discipline team, Engineers, Architects and Planners.
  • Produce site layout drawings based on site surveys.
  • Produce reinforced concrete rebar details and schedules
  • Produce concrete, steel, masonry detailed drawings and drainage layouts
  • Liaise with project teams to produce drawings in line with project requirements in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Keep abreast of new technologies and developments in the industry and identify new products that could improve efficiencies in the engineering teams
  • A high level of competence in a minimum of 2 of the following:
    • Preparation of planning application and general layout drawings
    • GIS mapping,
    • BIM,
    • Revit,
    • Civil 3D,
    • Cads RC for RC detailing and scheduling and
    • AutoCAD for production of general arrangement Concrete, Steel, Masonry Structures and Drainage Layouts
    • Competence in Reinforced Concrete (RC) detailing and scheduling.
    • Experience of working with, interrogating and use of point cloud data.
  • Production of work in compliance with the company QA/QC Procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and to strict deadlines.
  • Ability to work and share knowledge within a team structure.
  • Organised and adaptable with a flexible approach to work.
  • Strong ability to prioritise with excellent organisational skills.
  • Solution focused to achieve the project deliverables.
