Description:
The Chargehand will be responsible for the preparation and organisation of work for all employees in their department. Reporting directly to the Production Foreman, they will supervise and monitor performance and quality. They will identity problems and provide suggestions for improvement.
Responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to the following:
- Has a good awareness and understanding of Output / Productivity (KPIs) / Individual and Hall Metrics) with understanding of implication of decision making on targets.
- Attends daily meetings, deputising for the Hall Foreman when he is not available.
- Coordinate and manage the planning and implementation of operations, ensuring the availability of all necessary skills, equipment and materials are available to the team to enable and ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of the service you are responsible to provide.
- Establish a production plan, ensuring the efficiency of resources, materials and equipment.
- Plan the development and training of key staff to support business growth and succession.
- Train new team members (example - safe operation of equipment, 5S standards and procedures, assembly processes, inspection standards, process indicators, etc.).
- Communicate and liaise with supporting services EHS, HR, Eng & Quality.
- Facilitate continuous improvement activities of the team and assist in the implementation of improvements focusing on safety, quality, productivity, training, development and morale.
- Lead and actively participate in problem solving activities.
- Conduct daily communication meetings with team members and facilitate effective communication between shifts.
- Support and practice “Lean” manufacturing techniques (Visual Factory, Kanban, etc.).
- Assure adherence to quality gates by performing daily audits.
- Ensure the Health and Safety of all employees in the hall and where necessary, conduct accident investigations and recommend / take corrective action.
- Ensure that all Process Documentation e.g. SOPs are followed.
- Look for opportunities to drive continuous improvement, working with the Hall Foreman to deliver enhancements
Qualifications / Experience
- Teamwork, Communication, Problem Solving & Analysis, Planning & Organizing, Relationship Building, Adaptability & Flexibility.
- Excellent planning, organizational and communication skills with an ability to engage and lead team members. Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Supervisory experience would be an advantage.
- Craftsmanship. Must be willing to upskill if required.
