Civil Project Engineer

RWE Renewables is recruiting for a Civil Project Engineer position for our Onshore Wind, Solar, and BESS business in Northern Europe and the UK. As a Civil Project Engineer, you will oversee the Civil Balance of Plant for our Wind, Solar, and BESS projects, primarily focusing on the UK and RoI, during the project development and construction phase.

Your Tasks and Responsibilities:
 

  • Prepare and review layout drawings for the project development phase (planning consent, environmental authorization).
  • Prepare and align with stakeholders' site access plans considering WTG OEM’s, RWE’s specifications, and project conditions.
  • Prepare and align the initial Civil Engineering Balance of Plant for our projects (soil investigation, access, site internal roads, crane platforms, foundations, and substation buildings). Pre-construction design is partially done in-house, partially with support from external engineering service providers.
  • Review detailed execution designs, reports, specifications, and drawings, ensuring compliance with national/international standards and project requirements (WTG transport & erection, project consent requirements)
  • Liaise with external consultants and review any project design documents prepared by contractors for consistency with project requirements.
  • Review off-site road access to evaluate the feasibility of transporting wind turbines, transformers, inverter stations, and other major equipment.
  • Participate in site visits to identify critical access points and site internal road and crane hardstands for wind turbine generators.
  • Prepare with the Construction Manager the BoP contracting (BoQ preparation, scope description, drawings, Quality documentation) and align on the construction process, especially the preparation of the execution works. If needed, perform site visits during the construction phase to supervise/control the technical compliance with agreed guidelines, specifications, and design.
  • Collect and maintain as-built drawings and documentation of executed projects.
  • Support Solar and BESS projects regarding accessibility and preparation of layout drawings and preliminary soil assessment.
  • Continuously improve specifications and designs with experience and feedback from operating assets.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the Development and Construction department and the civil engineering community within RWE's Europe onshore Wind, Solar, and BESS Business.
     

Your profile:
 

  • Academically educated in the Civil Engineering discipline or equivalent.
  • Relevant experience in Civil Engineering, including design and construction in one or more of the following: reinforced concrete works, geotechnical works, earthworks, related QA/QC procedures, geotechnical investigations, road design, large components logistics, and roadway specifications.
  • Design and optimization experience of onshore wind farms in one or more of the following: infrastructures, wind turbine transport requirements, logistics, and transportability.
  • Excellent professional skills in CAD drawing preparation using AutoCAD Civil3D or Infraworks.
  • Knowledge of GIS tools (ArcView, QGis) and good adaptability to various Software is a plus.
  • Experience with tenders and review of construction projects, documentation, and QA/QC procedures.
  • A basic understanding of WTG-related structural calculations, loads, and fatigue analysis - by international standards is a plus but not a must-have.
  • Enjoy working in an international team and within virtual teams.
  • Valid driving license (mandatory) and willingness to travel (up to 25%).
  • Fluent English communication skills (speaking and writing). Additional language skills are beneficial (e.g., Swedish, Dutch, Polish, or German).
