Description:
The post holder will be responsible for the provision of appropriate and effective resuscitation training to all grades and disciplines of staff throughout the hospital. The post holder will be responsible for data entry & logging of all training to the Irish Heart Foundation & following national standards on record keeping.
The post holder will attend cardiac arrests to monitor and undertake audits in resuscitation practice. The post holder will be responsible for monitoring cardiac arrest equipment and supporting staff with equipment checks throughout the hospital & linking with Clinical Engineering regarding equipment support. The post holder will also be responsible for collection & entering Cardiac arrest Audit data & Cardiac Arrest follow up & linking with quality & safety group.
It may be necessary to travel to train staff on other Beaumont Hospital sites as required.
Responsibilities:
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
(a) The post holder will be responsible for the provision of Resuscitation training for staff of all disciplines and will implement monitoring systems to ensure the effectiveness of such.
(b) The post holder will attend cardiac arrest calls as appropriate, act as team leader until the arrival of the medical staff and give specialist clinical advice when required. Will support and debrief the cardiac arrest team and audit their performance.
(c) The post holder will perform specific clinical roles as dictated by the situation in the absence of other cardiac team members.
(d) The post holder will provide support to staff about resuscitation decisions and procedures as required.
(e) The post holder will take an active role as a member of the Resuscitation Advisory Group, providing professional advice on Resuscitation attempts, training, techniques on equipment.
(f) The post holder will develop, implement, supervise, provide and administer specialist Resuscitation training in the hospital and other sites as required.
(g) The post holder will provide training, in either a classroom or clinical environment as required, to all grades of staff in basic and advanced life support within the framework of national guidelines.
(h) The post holder will organise and provide courses to support all staff in the effective and appropriate resusitation e.g. BLS, ACLS, Defibrillation Study days & Paediatric study days, and promote a positive learning environment, share knowledge and instruct staff in new policies and procedure changes to ensure the provision of high quality patient care.
(i) The post holders will advise on the safety and appropriateness of Resuscitation equipment used within the hospital and inform the Directorate Nurse Manager/ Resuscitation Advisory Committee of any perceived deficiencies with equipment provision or maintenance. Writing reports to the relevant agencies when required.
(j) The post holder will be responsible for any investigation and subsequent actions identified by the hospital risk management system in liaison with the clinical teams.
(k) The post holder will be responsible for the collection of audit information and compilation of annual reports. He/she will participate in audit and research projects as agreed by the Resuscitation Advisory Committee.
(l) The post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating the training of medical students.
(m) The post holder will ensure that supplies/ resources are within agreed budget.
(n) The post holder will at all times exercise accountability working within their code of Professional Conduct and maintain professional standards of personal appearance appropriate to the needs of the role.
(o) The post holder will facilitate his/her own professional development and learning in consultation with the Directorate Nurse Manager. He/ she must keep up to date with the latest research and evidence related to resuscitation.
(p) The post holder will develop and adhere to agreed guidelines for Resuscitation procedures.
(q) The post holder will keep computerised, confidential records, of the staff trained in resuscitation skills and report this to the relevant line manager. He/ She will ensure that the administrative tasks related to the recording and issuing of certificates of attendance and at training are performed.
(r) The post holder must at all times report and record all incidents/ accidents involving patients, staff and others to ward/ department manager/ Directorate Nurse Manager and assist in any investigation if necessary.
(s) The post holder must ensure that he/she and staff within their area of responsibility attend mandatory study days and lectures, e.g. Fire drill, manual handling. Hand Hygiene, Standard Precautions, etc.
(t) The post holder will facilitate staff development and professional education of staff under their area of responsibility.
