Description:

This organisation produces and trades wholesale electricity in the Irish electricity market, and owns and operates a diverse portfolio of generation assets including wind, solar, batteries and thermal generators.

 

They has entered into contracts to develop new temporary emergency generation at North Wall, Dublin (193 MW) and Shannonbridge, Co Offaly (264 MW). These emergency generation plants are temporary in nature, and are being installed to address concerns the Commission for Regulation of Utilities has concerning Ireland’s short-medium term security of electricity supply.

This organisation has entered into a contract with a third party to operate and maintain these emergency generators. The company is seeking a candidate with experience in the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of high value power generation equipment to manage these assets as asset owner.

 

The successful candidate will manage the obligations of the contract in place with the Operations and Maintenance provider, protecting the interests as owner and ensuring that these emergency generation facilities are safely operated and maintained to ensuring a high availability and environmental compliance.

The candidate will have good interpersonal and technical skills to liaise with the O&M teams on site to ensure the terms of the contract are fulfilled and that issues are identified and resolved early ensuring the safe, reliable operation of the units.

 

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities will cover the items below:

  • Acting as the “Owner” of the commercial contract for the operation of 457 MW of emergency generation in two locations.
  • Ensure strong positive working relationship with the plant O&M teams
  • Ensure the terms of the company/O&M contract are fulfilled and that the plant is maintained to ensure a high availability
  • Deliver company obligations under the contract
  • Regular site visits to Northwall and Shannonbridge
  • Regular auditing of the power plants management systems
  • Communication of the plant status to external stakeholders including CRU, EirGrid, DECC on the availability of the power plants
  • Fulfilling the companies obligations to external agencies such as the EPA and HSA
  • Early identification of issues and resolution of same
  • Keep abreast of relevant technical developments and industry practice. Build technical relationships with main suppliers, external professional bodies, and peer industries.
  • Be fully informed of industry issues (policy, technology, regulation etc) which may impact the reliable operation of these assets.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • 7 years relevant experience in the operation and maintenance of large power generation assets.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience in using FIDIC/NEC Contracts or other comparable formats.
  • Experience in commercial aspects of a project’s business case
  • Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and influencing others.
  • Experience in agreeing commercial solutions to residual technical risk in significant contracts.
