ESB Networks is undergoing a Digital transformation, where Digital and Digital ways of working being placed firmly at the heart of everything Networks do. This digital transformation means the importance of data and its associated quality is now core to the future of everything Networks want to do as a business. From transforming how our customers interact with us, how our employees do their jobs to creating a Digital DSO of the future will help deliver on our decarbonisation strategy. ESB Networks are playing a key role in Ireland’s overall goal to be net carbon neutral by 2050.
In that context, the Networks Data Strategy identified a key new role of Data Governance Manager. It also aligns with a wider pan-ESB Data Strategy, more specifically the Data Governance agenda which is a key tenet of ESB Networks move towards becoming a digital and data utility. With increased importance of our data comes the need for increased data governance. With increasing volumes and increasing need for near-real time data to be available for decision making the role of Data Governance manager has potential to grow into one of the most important roles within ESB Networks to support the delivery of our ambitious business plans for the future.
Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to;
- Input to / draft any new data related policies or standards that may emerge as a result of this wider data governance exercise
- Find data owners for key data domains within the networks business
- Document associated roles and responsibilities
- Leads and maintains the community of Data Stewards and implementation of the Data Stewardship organisation.
- Provide guidance / training to data owners as required
- Liaise with the Networks process mapping project from a data governance point of view. need to ensure data ownership / responsibilities specifically ‘baked into’ business process(s)
- Own Networks data catalogue and ensure it is kept up to date
- Drive the adoption for all data governance policies and initiatives
- Ensure all major projects are aware of Data Governance procedures / policies etc
- Prioritises and resolves resourcing conflicts between data governance activities
- Support and drive data quality reporting and formation of KPIs around the same
- Define and monitor both the data quality definition and updating for appropriateness on an ongoing basis.
- Track, monitor and publish Data Governance scorecards
- As appropriate, input to / review data quality reports produced by specific projects / initiatives
- As appropriate, input to / review data quality remediation plans produced by specific projects / initiatives
- Be an advocate for data, and data governance within the ESB Networks business
- Communicates with the Central Data Council to implement and maintain Data Stewardship
- Liaise with key stakeholders to ensure alignment between data governance initiatives and relevant business initiatives and strategy
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
This is a new role within the organisation and therefore need someone with a proven record of establishing themselves within an organisation. An ability to come up with an implement a vision (both short and long term) will be required
Essential
- 12+ years of working experience, ideally in a utility
- Previous experience as a Data Governance manger or equivalent is preferable, but some experience in a data management role would be required
- Technical background in the use of data for solving business problem solving is required
- Excellent communications skills
- Stakeholder management is a key part of the role, and the candidate must be comfortable in dealing with stakeholders at all levels in the organisation up to and including director level
- While working as part of a team, must have an ability to be a self-starter and establish / drive the data governance agenda across ESB Networks
