Development & Consents Advisor

Description:

SSE has big ambitions to be a leading energy company in a low carbon world. Following our commitment to invest £12.5 billion in low carbon projects over the next 5 years, our SSE Renewables (SSER) business continues to be at the forefront of our growth plans, and our ambition to build a world that's more sustainable and inclusive for you, your family, the community you live in and for generations to come. We are proud to be playing a critical role in the net zero transition, as we aim to more than treble the net capacity in operation to 13GW and grow renewable energy output five-fold to over 50TWh over the next 10 years.

As Development and Consents Advisor, you will be involved with:

  • Our Development and Consents Teams working on the delivery of large-scale renewable energy projects through all stages of the development and consenting process both in the UK, Ireland and internationally.
  • Working in a multi-disciplinary project team on a wide range of consenting issues, to challenge yourself through dealing first hand with the complexities of consenting these large-scale projects and also play an important role in delivering renewable energy targets in the drive for a net zero carbon future.
  • You will visit both development and operational sites and work on a variety of projects to gain a broad experience of developing and consenting renewables projects.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • A degree in a relevant discipline such as planning, engineering, science, marine, environmental or similar, and may either have, or be working towards, professional membership of a relevant technical or professional body, for example the RTPI, IEMA or similar. Those seeking professional accreditation will be mentored and supported through the process during the normal course of the role.
  • Effective communication, teamwork, problem solving, negotiation, research and analytical skills as well as being organised, motivated and able to work on their own initiative.
  • A passion about SSE’s business strategy which is to drive the transition to a zero-carbon future through the world class development, construction and operation of renewable energy assets.

A background in Renewables isn’t necessary, and we’re open to applications from those with transferable experience. It’s more important to us that you share our values, bring unique experience and are eager to learn.
