The GPS Network Strategy Leader will serve as the primary contact in GPS for network-related information and decisions. This role will lead a team of professionals within Strategy & Business Intelligence and with other functions across the matrix to develop/ evolve the global network strategy to support the future commercial and development portfolio and oversee the execution of the strategy. The strategy scope is end-to-end, covering product development and the Commercial Operating Units – Pharma, Bio and Cell Therapy. The role will ensure seamless communication to the functions, sites and GPS leadership to allow GPS to be ready to support future portfolio business needs. The GPS Network Strategy Lead will also be the Global Process Owner of the Global Network Strategy process - leading the development/ evolution of a holistic process, which is integrated with enterprise processes, considers relevant business intelligence, is capable of driving robust decisions through appropriate governance, and is able to support business development decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Ensures GPS Network Strategy supports the BMS Corporate, Commercial, R&D, and GPS strategies and is capable of delivering the pipeline and the Long-Term Financial Plan (LTFP) for the company.
Drives collaborative formulation of long-term Network Strategy for GPS in alignment with multiple functions including Therapeutic Area (TA)/product leaders, OpUs, Product Development, GSC, Business Development, Commercial, R&D, and BI&A.
Oversees execution & enhancement of GPS governance process for establishing/ refining network strategy, Including developing/maintaining endorsed principles to guide objective decision making (more rapid decision making/ objective decisions). Ensures governance process is connected to BMS/ GPS enterprise processes (e.g., budget, capital planning, PD&C, S&OP).
Delivers a holistic strategy across all modalities for clinical and commercial assets; including but not limited to manufacturing, storage, testing, logistics and digital capabilities.
Coordinates with TA/ product strategy teams and GSC to incorporate evolving product lifecycle management goals, inclusive of Business Continuity and Sustainability requirements, into long-range plans for network strategy.
Influences GPS LT and other enterprise leaders to make key network decisions by collaboratively framing the problem, conducting data analysis, developing and assessing options, and conducting relevant financial analyses.
Partners with GSC long-range planning and BIA teams to build stochastic demand, supply, capacity scenario-, risk (Modelling BCM event crisis scenarios), and sensitivity analyses (e.g., by product, region, & mfg. sites) in support of planning & ad-hoc reviews.
Partners with BI&A and GSC to develop model(s) to inform network decision making, understanding the details and validating the outcomes of any models
Through the Network Community, evaluates shared long term planning assumptions, KPIs, geopolitical risks, financial considerations and assesses capacity levers and project investments that impact capacity with technology, process, regulatory, lifecycle, and other considerations.
Follows industry trends, collaborates with business intelligence & digital strategy teams to generate business insights for making proactive decisions on evolution of future manufacturing network.
Works with OpU leadership teams to ensure network strategy is translated into action. Hold matrix teams accountable for action, influencing without direct authority as needed.
Ensures process is capable of ad hoc analysis to support BD decision making
Qualifications & Experience
B.S/ B.A. in science or engineering. Master or advanced degree preferred.
Prior knowledge of different manufacturing platforms & facilities for different modalities.
15 yrs+ exp Ops or SCM leadership.
Exp with sr level interactions and influence.
Strong business & finance acumen in developing business case analyses.
Strategic thinking to analyze ambiguous situations and develop a vision/ direction.
Excellent verbal & written communication skills; ability to concisely and clearly communicate complex topics.
Ability to lead and influence multidisciplinary, cross-functional matrix teams.
Robust analytical/ statistical skills and understanding of demand mgmt. & supply chain planning
Strong leadership capability to make/ act on decisions while balancing speed, quality & risk.
