Description:
Cork City Council invites applications, on the official application form, from suitably qualified persons, who wish to be considered for inclusion on a panel from which vacancies for the position of Executive Scientist (3 Year Fixed Term Contract) in the Community, Culture & Placemaking Directorate may be filled.
Working to implement national and local policy, particularly the Cork City Corporate Plan, Cork City Climate Action Plan and the Waste Management Plan for a Circular Economy, the Executive Scientist will have responsibility for delivery of Cork City Council’s Environmental Awareness and Education Programme, including the Lifetime Lab Education Programme. The Executive Scientist shall report to the Senior Executive Officer of the Sports & Sustainability Section in the Community, Culture & Placemaking Directorate.
The role requires a high-level technical ability together with an understanding and knowledge of the science, legislation, policies and plans that underpin the Local Authority’s role in Environmental Management and education. The role involves activation of local communities, businesses, schools and stakeholders and requires an ability to engage with the public.
The role also requires a clear knowledge and understanding of local authority services and its key stakeholders and relationships, local government structure and its democratic role and mandate, current local government issues, future trends and strategic direction of the sector.
