Job Overview: The Head of Lending is a key leadership role responsible for managing the Lending Function at our Credit Union. This role encompasses Personal, Business, and SME lending. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Head of Lending plays a vital role in driving growth, ensuring compliance, and fostering a member-centric approach within the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership and Management:
· Be an integral member of the Management Team.
· Report directly to the CEO and oversee the efficient operation of the lending function.
· Cultivate new partnerships and assess lending-related business opportunities.
· Build and lead a member-centric team.
· Ensure organizational readiness for implementing new lending products.
· Achieve ambitious departmental goals.
2. Compliance and Risk Management:
· Ensure full compliance with all applicable legislation, regulations, and guidelines.
· Implement and oversee the Credit Policy to guarantee adherence.
· Approve loans within authorized limits.
3. Reporting and Communication:
· Provide timely and accurate lending reports to the CEO, Credit Committee, and Board as required.
· Maintain awareness of the Credit Union's role within the community.
· Develop and execute a strategic plan for the Lending Department.
· Report promptly to the CEO on service trends and deviations.
4. Customer Service and Continuous Improvement:
· Demonstrate a passion for customer service excellence.
· Drive a culture of continuous improvement.
5. Management and Team Development:
· Contribute to and champion the strategic plan as a member of the Management Team.
· Support cultural change initiatives.
· Ensure the Business Development team has the necessary tools and resources for success.
· Manage team members' objectives and performance through KPIs and regular reviews.
· Provide necessary training and resources for team excellence.
· Serve as a role model for performance and behaviour, supporting staff in achieving strategic goals.
6. Lending Development:
· Maximize portfolio growth through effective planning and strategy execution.
· Review member relationships for credit quality, structure, and pricing.
· Analyse membership and common bond profiles for lending opportunities.
· Ensure the stability of the loan portfolio and develop long-term strategies.
· Promote and develop new business opportunities.
· Utilize IT systems for efficiency and identifying new business opportunities.
· Collaborate with the Marketing and Business Development team for B2B opportunities.
· Leverage the lending team's capabilities for member financial advice.
Technical & Behavioural Requirements:
· Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role in a financial or credit union environment.
· QFA or equivalent qualification, ensuring compliance with Minimum Competency Regulations.
· Degree in business or finance.
· Proven track record of achieving business growth.
· Strong credit analysis and underwriting experience.
· Ability to assess complex information and identify key credit risk drivers.
· Strong leadership, communication, and report-writing skills.
