Description:
The Junior Interior Designer will assist in conceptualizing and developing design solutions for both domestic and commercial projects. Responsibilities include preparing presentations and drawings, sourcing materials, and working closely with the senior designer, clients, vendors, reps and agents. The role requires a combination of creativity, technical knowledge, project management and coordination skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in Concept Development:
- Support the senior designer in developing creative design concepts for both domestic and commercial projects.
- Help translate client requirements into design solutions.
- Assist with brainstorming sessions and idea generation.
- Liaise with vendors, reps, agents of products.
Drafting and 3D Modeling:
- Produce detailed 2D and 3D drawings, sketches, using AutoCAD, SketchUp, or similar software.
- Create mood boards, colour schemes, and material palettes.
- Prepare presentations for client meetings.
Material and Furniture/Product Sourcing:
- Research and source materials, furniture, fixtures, and accessories.
- Maintain relationships with suppliers and vendors to gather samples and product information.
Project Support:
- Assist in managing project timelines, tracking deliverables, and maintaining schedules.
- Coordinate with contractors, architects, and other project team members.
- Participate in site visits and inspections to ensure design implementation meets the specifications.
- Lead generation and lead completion on Houzz and website queries.
Client Interaction:
- Attend client meetings and provide support in addressing their design needs and preferences.
- Assist in preparing design presentations and client communications.
- Help build a rapport with Clients and ensure needs are met.
Administrative Tasks:
- Organize and maintain project files, design databases, and documentation.
- Assist with budget tracking and cost estimation for projects.
- Handle general office support duties as required by the design team.
Skills and Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field.
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign).
- Basic understanding of construction drawings and documentation.
Soft Skills:
- Strong creativity and an eye for detail.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under the direction of senior designers and collaborate in a team environment.
Experience:
- 0-2 years of experience in interior design (internships and school projects can be included).
- Familiarity with design trends, materials, and furniture sourcing.
