The Locum Consultant Paediatrician post will work alongside the existing consultant General Paediatricians to further advance the development of the Departments of General paediatrics and Paediatric Neurodisability across the Children’s Health Ireland sites. The purpose of this role is to integrate the provision of care to children with complex neurodisability in CHI Tallaght and Crumlin and to support general paediatrics in CHI at Crumlin.

The appointment of additional consultant general paediatricians will allow for planning and implementing new models of care including rapid access clinics and GP liaison services and new models of inpatient care including the consultant of the week model, in line with the National Model of Care, once a sufficient number of paediatricians have been appointed. This post will continue to support the introduction of additional capacity for the provision of outpatient clinics, improving access for patients to the most appropriate clinician. This post will continue to support the development of the cross-city Departments of General Paediatrics and Paediatric Neurodisability, continuous quality improvement with the department and improved access for patients. This post will help deliver cross site neurodisability care to children with complex care needs. The appointee with work closely with sub-specialty consultant colleagues across the five sites and with members of the multidisciplinary team to maximise patient care and outcomes.

The Consultant Paediatric role at CHI at Crumlin is to provide acute care and a consultative role for children with general and complex neurodisability presentations and to provide a consultative role to support the care and transition of children with complex neurodisability to community services.

  • Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in the specialty of paediatrics.
  • Ideally, two years certified postgraduate training in paediatric neurodisability or a strong interest in Paediatric neurodisability and keen to improve their skills with the support of the neurodisability team.
  • The successful interviewee must be registered as a specialist in the relevant specialty on the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland before taking up appointment.
  • The Consultant must, at all times while continuing to hold office, continue to be registered with the Medical Council of Ireland. Documentary evidence of Medical Council Registration is required and must be produced annually to the Medical Administration Department within the Children’s Health Ireland.
  • Should the successful candidate not be registered as a Specialist at that time, the post may be offered to the next suitable candidate. Should no suitable candidate exist, a further recruitment process may be initiated”.
