Position Description

The Renewables Projects Development team within Engineering and Major Projects specialists in the development of on shore and offshore wind, battery solar and other renewable infrastructural projects in Ireland and overseas.

The Planning & Strategy Manager has overall responsibility for guiding project teams as to the optimum strategic approach to take in the project planning in light of current regulatory landscape and the evolving legislation for large energy infrastructure projects.

• Keeping abreast of evolving planning and environmental regulatory and legislative changes, with particular focus on offshore wind and develop options which optimise ESB’s position, whilst maintaining compliance, in the interaction with the various regulatory and legislative processes.
• Provide expert guidance to a multidisciplinary team of specialists in relation to strategic objectives in relation to project consenting
• Work closely with colleagues in EMP’s Planning and Environmental team to ensure there is alignment in the project consenting and development strategies.
• Act as an EMP champion in the engagement with ESB’s Environment and Sustainability Leadership team
• Take lead in the due diligence assessment of potential acquisitions with focus on planning, environmental and consenting criteria.
• With a continuous focus on the challenges large energy projects are experiencing in the Irish and UK planning systems provide guidance on how ESB can capture and realise these lessons learnt.
• A strong understanding of the Irish and UK planning landscape in terms of large energy infrastructure development
• Proven ability to successfully lead multi-disciplinary teams
• Excellent communication skills in terms of team leadership, stakeholder management and written and verbal presentation
• Experience of providing advice on planning matters
• Ability to demonstrate sound technical judgement in challenging circumstances
• Self-motivated and highly driven and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
• Proven record of being results driven with a clear focus on delivery to safety, time, quality, and cost objectives.
