Description:
In 2016, the European Union formally adopted a Directive concerning measures for a high common level of security of network and information systems across the EU. The main objective of the Network and Information Systems directive (NIS Directive) is to ensure the appliance of a range of security and network requirements, for operators of essential services and digital service providers. The NIS Directive requires Member States to take a number of significant measures with regard to Cyber Security. The Directive was formally transposed into Irish legislation under the European Union in 2018.
In support of the NIS objective, Mater Misericordiae University Hospital is required to undertake NIS cyber resilience self-assessments as an integral component of the NCSC cyber resilience programme. NIS cyber resilience self-assessment is critical in countering the ongoing threat to the continuity of services in the Health Sector.
