Description:

The research group of Prof Jochen Prehn at the RCSI Centre for Systems Medicine and the Department of Physiology and Medical Physics aims to identify novel prognostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets for the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders.

To support our research team of molecular neurobiologist in the identification of predictive/prognostic signatures and novel therapeutic targets by performing gene expression analysis on cell culture, pre-clinical and clinical samples, as well as cell biological studies. The successful candidate will provide a high level function in the ongoing development, maintenance and completion of top-end academic and research collaborations.

  • Perform research and provide research support for the SFI-funded research program of the Principal Investigator in the areas of gene expression analysis and cell biological studies exploring the effects of BK channels and LINGO in neurons and astrocytes.
  • Conduct PCR-based assays and western blot and other assays on cell culture, pre-clinical and clinical samples to evaluate the expression levels
  • Perform cell culture studies
  • Perform data analysis
  • Complying with statutory legislation, RCSI and department rules and requirements in furtherance of your own and general staff welfare and safety
  • Undergoing programmes of training and development as may be required from time to time
  • Representing the best interests of the Department and RCSI at all times
  • Performing such other duties as may be required from time to time
  • A primary degree in Biological Sciences/Genetics or Health/Life Sciences is essential or alternatively a degree in a related discipline is essential.
  • Experience in PCR based assays or gene expression analysis is of advantage

  • Ability to make decisions and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work on one’s own initiative as well as in a team environment
