Applications are invited for a full-time technical Research Support Officer position in the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences. The position will provide essential technical and administrative support for the School’s new Microbeam Laboratory, managed by Prof. Maria McNamara.
The Microbeam Laboratory was purpose-built in 2017 as a high-specification facility with cutting-edge equipment for surface characterisation, including a variable pressure SEM, FTIR microscope, Raman microscope, ultramicrotome and high-resolution digital microscope. The laboratory is a unique facility within UCC with diverse applications in materials science, bioscience, anatomy, pharmacology, food science, nanomaterials, microplastics, geoscience, art and heritage.
The successful candidate will assist with all aspects of laboratory management, including routine maintenance of key equipment, training and managing users, managing supplies of consumables, liaising with suppliers, facilitating pilot analyses, soliciting and securing business internal to UCC and especially with prospective industrial users external to UCC, and updating the laboratory website.
