Description:
Our client are the people behind Ireland’s national electricity grid. The critical nature of the work they do, and the experience it offers, provides an exciting opportunity for a SCADA Ops Engineer in the IT Applications team within the Chief People and Information Office. You will be responsible for supporting the delivery of a rolling programme of work for the modelling, deployment and testing/ pre-commissioning of new plant in the EMS, ensuring that the power system model keeps pace with the physical power system. You will support the release management and testing of EMS databases and Grid Controller displays in the Control Centre in Ireland, in collaboration with the team in Belfast.
Key Responsibilities
The role holder will be responsible for the following:
- Support the delivery of a rolling programme of work for the modelling, deployment and testing/ pre-commissioning of new plant in the EMS, ensuring that the power system model keeps pace with the physical power system
- Support the release management and testing of EMS databases and Grid Controller displays in the Control Centre in Ireland, in collaboration with the team in Belfast.
- Support the broader integrated Single Electricity Market requirements for EMS including seamless provision of feeds and the provision of network models.
- Support effective stakeholder management of both internal and external stakeholders (technical and non-technical) including key external vendors and internal service providers
- Liaise on a cross-functional basis to support continuous improvement in information sharing, signal list quality and engineering standards
- Develop and support the introduction of new procedures and processes
- Participate in a defined 24-hour rota to assist and support, in real-time, the troubleshooting of issues for our key customers and provide subject matter expertise to resolve these issues
- Participate in Disaster Recovery drills and contribute to the Group’s Business Continuity Management process
Skills and Experience
Essentials:
- Relevant IT or engineering degree with a minimum of 4 years directly relevant experience.
- Experience supporting mission and business critical services in a 24 x 7 environment
- Experience of working in a secure IT environment and working on critical infrastructure.
- Strong analytical and problem solving capability
- Self-starter with the ability to operate with minimal supervision
- Excellent organisation and time management skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
- Effective communicator, both in verbal and written communications to business and technical audiences
- Experience working with MS Office tools (including advanced Excel skills, SQL, MS Project and Visio or equivalent).
