Excellent opportunity for an experienced Research and Development Scientist to join a growing and expanding business in Oranmore, Co. Galway. My client provides a range of Gardening, Agricultural and Veterinary products for the Irish, UK and EU markets. The company is expanding both its product range and export potential. To achieve this, they are offering a new position as Research and Development Scientist. Reporting to the Technical Director, the position will involve advancing the research on commercialised products as well as working on developing the NPD pipeline. This is a new opportunity, offering diversity of work within a wide portfolio range from Veterinary / Animal Nutrition to Plant Protection, Biocides and Biopesticide products. This is an exciting role for an individual with a passion for life sciences and chemistry. The role will encompass the research and development of new product lines from concept to field trials.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

 

The functions of the R&D Scientist include but are not limited to the following;

 

  • Working with defined concepts, researching the chemistry and develop commercially viable solutions.
  • Supporting the acceleration and growth of new product innovations, making use of external bodies, suppliers etc. to leverage new technologies and land consumer relevant products with bottom line impact.
  • To analyse proposed raw materials, in-process and finished product as well as stability samples according to the relevant specifications while ensuring the documenting and reporting of same is conducted in accordance with good laboratory practices.
  • Complete all testing in a timely manner that supports established NPD targets.
  • To carry out all necessary efficacy field trials, comparing results against standard products.
  • Recording results in a timely and accurate fashion.

 

 

 

COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • A relevant Science Degree (Life Science, Agricultural Science, Chemistry etc).
  • Strong analytical acumen, with ability to understand formulation development.
  • Experience of HPLC & GC testing methods.
  • Ability to carry out and analyse field trials, in line with established trialling principles, with an understanding of both the agronomy plus the chemistry of the test products
  • Manage own workload effectively ensuring activities are aligned with business timings.
  • A creative mindset – and the ability to approach a problem creatively.
  • Good communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong IT skills.
  • A meticulous approach to work.
  • The ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
