The position requires a strategic approach to the development of services and structures, embracing continuous quality improvement and technological development and the management of changes necessary to achieve organisational objectives.

- This role will be specifically utilised for the further development of NGS in the laboratory with reference to DNA and RNA panel validation and implementation within the directorate.
- The role will support the service that has been built to date while further developing the scope of clinical molecular testing in the laboratory.
- The role will also facilitate streamlining workflows within the interdisciplinary department.
- To perform his/her duties under the general direction of the Chief Medical Scientist.
- To perform all aspects of technical work to the highest standard.
- To supervise and provide guidance and support to medical scientists and medical laboratory assistants in the performance of their duties.
- To organise the technical programme so that work patterns are efficiently maintained.
- To carry out routine inspections of laboratory equipment in his/her charge and to ensure that the equipment is properly maintained and kept in serviceable condition.
- To collaborate with the Chief Medical Scientist in the maintenance of efficiency and the introduction of new methods in the laboratory.
- To assist in implementing measures for the safety, health and welfare of all the staff.
- To assist in the training of student medical scientists, on call personnel, junior medical staff and visiting workers as required.
- To assist in maintaining the ISO15189 accredited status of the department.
- To represent the Chief Medical Scientist at meetings when required.
- To attend courses and meetings as appropriate to maintain up to date knowledge.
- To perform any other duties as may be appropriate to the grade. As per MF-GEN-0098 contained in staff members training folder.
