Description:
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for the engineering activities on a specific construction project. The activities associated with the project will vary and will be agreed upon with the Project Manager on an ongoing basis. You will coordinate the technical design with the onsite installation through to the successful commissioning, ensuring that the , mission, and company values are fulfilled.
Senior Mechanical Engineer Responsibilities:
- Collate all design documents and drawings: Ensure all relevant design documents and drawings are gathered and maintained.
- Experience with Piping and Ducting e.t.c
- Attend project Handover Meetings: Participate in meetings to understand project requirements and objectives.
- Evaluate value engineering or cost-saving opportunities: Identify and assess opportunities for cost savings or value engineering to optimize project outcomes.
- Preparation of coordinated drawings: Develop comprehensive drawings covering all aspects of the installation, including mechanical, electrical, sprinkler, structural, and architectural elements.
- Review and understand project design specifications and drawings: Assess compliance of coordinated drawings and technical submittals with project design specifications.
- Assist in the production of weekly progress reports: Support the preparation and dissemination of regular progress updates.
- Assist in the compilation and assessment of Technical Submittals: Help in gathering and evaluating technical submittals for project compliance.
- Processing requisitions, generation of purchase orders: Manage the procurement process by generating purchase orders and processing requisitions.
- Receipt verification (RV) of equipment and materials arriving on site: Verify and document the receipt of equipment and materials.
- Seek to clarify queries with the design team through the RFI system: Use the Request for Information (RFI) system to resolve design-related queries.
- Understand the commercial fundamentals of a project: Be aware of the commercial aspects, including profit plans, potential variation logs, and take-offs.
- Liaise and coordinate with the design team, contractors, and in-house project team: Collaborate on technical and commercial issues with all stakeholders.
- Attend technical meetings: Participate in technical discussions with the design team, contractors, and in-house project team.
- Carry out document control: Record and transmit information effectively using File Key.
- Prepare method statements and risk assessments: Develop method statements and risk assessments for production activities.
- Organize and assess the work of subcontractors: Manage subcontractor activities and assess their work quality.
- Carry out Quality Control through inspections and snagging: Perform inspections and snagging, including walking down P&ID’s and layout drawings.
- Population of test packs and tracking of same: Ensure test packs are populated and tracked effectively.
Essential Skills of the Senior Mechanical Engineer:
- 5+ years of professional experience: Demonstrated experience in mechanical engineering within a construction or related industry.
- Proficiency in design software and tools: Skilled in using relevant software applications for design and project management.
- Strong organizational skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently with high attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Problem-solving mindset: Capable of handling complex technical and commercial issues.
