Long Term Business and Portfolio Planning in Generation and Trading (GT) Strategy is responsible for the development and implementation of the GT Strategy by providing long term thinking in terms of strategy, technology and portfolio development, understanding and influencing the regulatory, policy and political environment, ensuring excellence in business leadership and business transformation, acting as an internal source of expert advice and information to the business, and representing ESB in GB.

Within GT Strategy there is the Long Term Business and Portfolio Planning Team which is responsible for the development of the GT strategy, identification of the generation portfolio, analysis of the market and competitive environment, and the development of capability in low- to zero-carbon generation technologies and the preparation of GT positions on these technologies.

The team has a vacancy that will contribute to the shaping of GT strategy and the future generation portfolio. The role will require an ability to manage, model and assimilate the energy market, competitor behaviour, and emerging generation technology to help inform the direction of the future generation fleet. It will require interaction with both internal and external stakeholders

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities will cover the items below:

• Develop clear understanding of competitive drivers.
• Collate, manage, and disseminate data relating to these drivers.
• Develop scenarios that are 5 to 20 years duration.
• Assess emerging low- to zero- carbon generation technologies.
• Update models and assess against the existing strategy.
• Build new scenarios that feed into the development or replacement of the existing strategy.
• Interact with internal and external stakeholders

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

• 10 years relevant experience
• Background in generation, transmission, or supply.
• Commercial / contractual awareness.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to influence key decision makers.
