Tyndall is a multidisciplinary and multi-cultural institution with over 50 nationalities representing a wide range of disciplines from science, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to technology commercialisation, project management, financial management, HR, marketing/communications and facilities management.
Tyndall’s commercial team is responsible for all aspects of industry engagement across a wide range of deep technology research programme delivery to our network of SME and MNC industry partners across the globe.
- Working closely with the Commercial Director, Research Centre, Tyndall management and members of the wider Tyndall team, your experience and technology business acumen will enable you to:
- Be responsible for Tyndall’s strategic industry partner engagement for assigned accounts, research domains, technologies and market segments;
- Through personal and direct Tyndall-wide engagement, own and deliver long-term, mutually-impactful relationships with new and existing industry partners;
- Collaborate proactively with Tyndall’s research community, identify, create and secure a pipeline of new research opportunities with our industry partners with a focus on long-term return for all stakeholders;
- Prepare and deliver commercial proposals for industry research engagements, aligning complex research outputs with appropriate commercial models and contract terms;
- Manage your assigned pipeline of commercial contracts and strategic partnerships through negotiation to close, achieving your targets in line with management and the Institute’s strategy;
- Actively prioritise opportunity and workload in line with your assigned responsibilities;
- Support Tyndall’s research centres’ industry engagement strategy, including the research teams’ objectives for industry partner engagement and development of commercialisation opportunities for their research;
- Take the opportunity to lead and collaborate with diverse Tyndall-wide working groups, including cross-functional themes which may extend beyond your daily remit in the Commercial team;
- Conduct strategic marketing and business intelligence analysis to identify and evaluate new technology and market application sectors to maximise the economic and societal impact of Tyndall’s research and to identify key industry partners in new markets and build early industry partner relationships in those markets;
- Drive impactful collaboration with your assigned peer groups in national public and private bodies such as Enterprise Ireland, IDA, Science Foundation Ireland, IBEC, ESRI et al;
- Deliver appropriate management objectives, including effective and timely reporting of relevant KPIs as required by Institute management;
- Pro-actively collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to (for example, but not limited to) identify marketing channels, media engagement opportunity and opportunities for conference speaker engagements relevant to the role
- Represent Tyndall on internal and external boards and committees as may be required or desirable from time to time;
- Other relevant and appropriate duties in the Commercial Centre which arise as the needs of the Institute’s strategy and operations change and evolve;
- Play an active role in supporting the Commercial Director and wider institute teams to develop the Institute’s commercial performance.
- Appropriate career experience for the role, demonstrated through a results-driven track record of successful business development outcomes at a senior level including contract negotiation and close.
- Experience of translating input from diverse teams across, for example legal, technical etc. requiring the translation of often complex technical and scientific principles into business proposals which delivers to industry needs.
- Experience of strategic engagement and relationship management & development with large multinational corporations.
- Demonstrated leadership in executing strategy and implementing objectives.
- Proof of primary Degree in engineering or science disciplines with relevant career experience.
