Description:
Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the position of Analytical & Technical Development Officer who will lead and develop independent research projects. The successful candidate will be reporting to the Analytical Services Manager and working closely with the Laboratory Team they will research, plan, and implement testing programs for feed, grass, soil, water, milk, and any additional products as they arise.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Working within the Laboratory with the various instrumentation to advance existing business development initiatives for the Analytical Services Laboratory in addition to creating new opportunities.
- Zero Harm - Health & Safety: Working collaboratively with EHS function and Laboratory Management, implement zero harm procedures, controls and monitoring to ensure full compliance and implementation of H&S best practice to support the Laboratory team.
- Keep abreast of technical advances relevant to laboratory services.
- Development of the Analytical Services Laboratory Team.
- Ensure relevant timeframes and deadlines are communicated and met on the development and execution of opportunities.
- Manage the preparation of the business case for proposal and advancement of selected initiatives.
- Review on an ongoing basis the overall markets and customers served by the business to identify relevant key trends and implications for same.
- Troubleshoot and training for chemical and trace-element analysis on feed, grass, soil, water, and milk samples in a timely manner to meet customer deadlines.
- Communicate with external maintenance staff to ensure safe and continuous operation of analytical instruments.
- Adapt to customer demand for high-volume-quick-turnaround trials.
- Innovate to offer new analytical services for a wide customer base.
- Document & validate results, write SOP¿s and seek accreditation for new test methods.
- Assist leasing with private and public bodies for the betterment of Analytical Services Laboratory and Dairygold Co-operative Society Ltd.
- Contribute to research project proposals for collaborative funding opportunities.
- Have the ability to prioritise work.
- Maintain ISO 17025 accreditation.
The successful candidates will:
- Chemistry and biology based third level qualification with a focus on Agri Biosciences. A minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience in the relevant field
- This role requires a PhD level Qualification.
- 2+ years relevant experience.
- In-depth knowledge of the following techniques is critical for the role: LC-MS, ICP-MS, AAS
- Qualifications and experience in Molecular biology & Agri-Bioscience
- Capability to understand the underlying processes across the full remit of the role.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships with people internally and externally.
- Strong computer literacy with particular emphasis on Excel and experience of other reporting/analytical tools.
- Proven track record of strong organisational skills, ability to prioritise tasks and focus on and meet task deadlines.
- Willingness to assist in a team environment and to adapt to challenges in the course of achieving departmental and site objectives.
- A positive attitude and self-starting ability with the aptitude & flexibility to take ownership of work as required and see it through to completion.
